The reason why you deploy several at once is because each Fremen gets a random amount of ticks that it takes to call a worm.  Sometimes it can take a while, sometimes it is immediate.  Therefore the more fremen you deploy, the greater the odds that at least one of them will call a worm immediately.  (lets say each fremen has a 1 in 20 chance of calling a worm immediately- i'm not sure the exact timing.  Therefore if you deploy 20 fremen, there is more than a 90% chance that you will get a worm immediately)
